Start of a Challenge

Quick write:
Based on yesterday's debate and my research I stand on selective schools for "smart" kids shouldn't be allowed because it set an image for those "smart" kids and other kids that they have to put up with. For example, the kids in the selective school have to keep reaching a certain expectation which can lower their effort. Also the other students will think low of them self since they don't have grades like the ones on selective schools. Therefore my position in this topic is that I disagree with selective schools for "smart" kids.

Ability And Accomplishment

Quick Write:
It is my strong opinion that the best thing ever invented was the pen. I say this because a pen is necessary to write, sketch, and many other things. Another reason I believe this because it gives people a way to express themselves in so many different ways.

Summary:
So far I have been reading chapter 3 in Mindsets, there were some claims and examples. The first claim I took note of is how student's with fixed mindsets grades decline when moving on to junior high school. Also students with a growth mindset their grades increased. Students then learned that working hard didn't make you vulnerable but makes you smarter.

Monday Post

Quick Write:
From chapter 2 on page 41 it says, "effort is what ignites that ability and turns it into accomplishment." This is the main idea to my section of chapter 2 which I read. The idea of trying and failing gives many fear about effort. People with fixed mindsets think that, "effort is for those who don't have the ability." This means that people with fixed mindsets think if you have to put a lot of effort in something then you must not be good at it. However, people with growth mindset believe its effort that makes the fun of an accomplishment. In conclusion, effort has been named badly but it the key and fun to accomplishing a goal.

Change For The Better

Quick Write:
One aspect of mindset that I want to change is the amount of effort I put into completing my goals. During a challenge, obstacles always appear but still going for the main goal gets difficult. I do admit that sometimes I do give up on how much effort I put in everything.

Final Reflection:
I plan to keep myself on track when I'm doing something. I like to say I am my best cheerleader, so to change the aspect of my mindset that I identified in my quick write I would want to cheer my self up when I feel like giving up. Putting all effort in my things would be better for me.

Half Way There

Quick Write:
I believe you aren't born with a fixed or growth mindset. Everyone has different ways of growing up and different experiences which makes their mindset. For example, I come from a life that I have to work hard to get what I want so I think I have both mindsets.

Final Reflection:
As a student I see how teachers motivate students. In my classes I see teachers honoring students who come everyday by putting their names in the classroom wall. Also, teachers talk to students about their good grades. However some teachers without knowing it can cause students to feel like a failure by setting them apart from others who are doing better. For example, if the teacher needs to have groups for an assignment the teacher would put good students together and those who haven't been to school in another group.
